Ashley and I had the wonderful chance to travel to the summit of the Haleakala Volcano in Hawaii. This is a state park that looks a bit like the surface of Mars. It is very different than the rest of Maui. On the day that we went up it when the sun was setting it was around 5 degrees celsius. We stayed at the top hiking and photographing for the better part of around 8 hours. We had wanted to stay longer to do some star photos with the observatory in the background. This didn't happen on account of the full moon that rose soon after sunset. So we packed it in and went back down to the beach to warm up. Here are some really stunning shots from our time at the summit.

Death Valley
So Ashley and I were in California and ended up in Death Valley State Park which is an amazing ecosystem that looks like it is straight out of the Middle East. The hottest temperatures we experienced while traveling through the park was 49 degrees celsius, which makes you over heat really quickly (Ashley enjoyed this much more than I did). Some of the sand dunes were very high and we had to hike a bit to see them. The hike in was slightly terrifying as while we were walking along every ten feet or so the dirt would collapse underneath of us and we would step into a hole of some burrowing denizen. It could have been just a mouse but we both were convinced that it belonged to a snake. Anyways some amazing pictures came out of it and I am very happy with them.

Field B.C. Landscape Photo
Driving back from the wedding in Kicking Horse we stopped at this cute little teashop for a snack and I saw a great opportunity to shoot this wonderful landscape shot. Check out the rest of the shots here: http://www.markderry.com/Landscapes/Field-BC

A beautiful trip out to Lake Louise with my brother provided this shot. I love how the rocks pop out.
Crazy Calgary Weather
My girlfriend called me up and said "Get outside with your camera now!" and this was the result. It was a massive hail storm that had just blown over Calgary with the sun lighting up the clouds. A touch of HDR to bring out all of the contrast and we have one awesome pic!
